Default English edit

The default parameter must be 1=English.

For example, {{rfi}} would be understood as:{{rfi|en}}
, without putting "EN" as the default language.

Nowadays:

For example, {{rfi}} produces:

  This entry needs [[:Category:Requests for images in Lua error in Module:languages/templates at line 18: Parameter 1 is required. entries|a photograph or drawing for illustration]]. Please try to find a suitable image on Wikimedia Commons or upload one there yourself!

Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "{{{1}}}" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E.

And {{rfi|en}}
produces:

  This entry needs a photograph or drawing for illustration. Please try to find a suitable image on Wikimedia Commons or upload one there yourself!

@BoldLuis: The Wiktionary community decided that "assume English" was a bad idea many years ago. If someone forgets to add es (Spanish), it will be categorized automatically and naively as English. —Suzukaze-c 21:28, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Suzukaze-c: This template it is put in an entry in a language. It is OK think the default is English when the template is put in the English entry. BoldLuis (talk) 23:49, 9 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, but the template itself does not know that it is in an English section due to technical restrictions. —Suzukaze-c (talk) 00:08, 10 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Requesting animated images, or videos edit

Just a thought: some (rare) concepts are best illustrated by an animated diagram or a video. We could potentially extend this template with a parameter to indicate that. However, I doubt it's needed, as the "free text" param is probably sufficient for these rare cases. Equinox 21:10, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
