Etymology edit

From Trondheim and fjord. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?) The name of the fjord may originally have been *Þrónd or *Þróund, which would then be the origin of þróndr and plural þrǿndr (> trønder), the name of the people living around it. Compare sygnir pl from Sogn.

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /²trund(h)ɛɪːmsfjuːrən/, /²trun(h)ɛɪːmsfjuːrən/
  • (Trøndelag) IPA(key): [²tʰru̞n.nɛ̞ɪ̯ˑms.fju̞ˑɳ]

Proper noun edit

Trondheimsfjorden m (indefinite Trondheimsfjord)
