Foreign words

Hi there. For foreign words, the idea is that we just give the English translation. People can then look at the English entry to find translations in all the other languages. That avoids duplication. Keep up the good work. SemperBlotto 14:39, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Difference?

I didn't realise that there was a difference.

• A noun is a thing "a pale bue shade of green"
• An adjective describes a noun "A green dog"

In some languages the word will be different, especially in an inflected language where endings change depending on gender and number. SemperBlotto 14:55, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No, in spanish, there is no difference at all.

tener - pronunciation

The reason we use phonetic symbols is that all though tener is pronounced the way you apparently pronounce 'ten-AIR', that isn't the way I pronounce it. For me it would be more like 'tay-NAIR', to someone in the south 'AIR' is more of an 'EH-ya', to a spanish speaker 'ten' rhymes with 'main', to an english speaker 'ten' rhymes with 'men'... things become ambiguous when you write them that way. I see. That's how we're taught to pronounce it at school but if you're a real spanish speaker then you know best. I just find it very useful to have an "English" sort of way of putting it because half of the characters don't even show up on my computer anyway. If you want me to stop putting that, then I will. I'm quite new to this lol...

Audio

Hello, I see you uploaded audio pronunciations of "Wiktionary" and "Wikipedia". Thank you. I am thrilled that someone else is taking an interest in audio and especially thrilled that somebody on the other side of the pond is taking an interest in audio. (I'm in California.) I don't know if we have help for creating and uploading audio yet, but if you do any more audio, please upload it to Commons. Uploading to Commons allows all wiki projects to use content. (For instance, brouhaha is a word in both English and French, so both Wiktionaries can use both files.) You can then use the template

*{{audio|en-uk-word.ogg|Audio (UK)}}

I think Kipmaster has given you the official "hit lists" already. Certainly if you can contribute anything on those pages, please do. Ultimately, all words that have a pronunciation should have audio in a variety of accents, but that goal is a very long way off. You could also start with certain categories, such as the basic words lists or the heteronyms. If you're looking for other places to start, think of any word in the English language that isn't pronounced the way it looks. They are legion. Place names near you, words that are particular to British English, or that you would pronounce differently from me would also be welcome. In short, start anywhere that you think might help somebody someday. We've also had assorted requests for Thames, which I have hesitated to add, since folks in California spend very little time talking about it. —Dvortygirl 08:10, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Multiple etymologies

Just a quick word about format: I saw you reducing 4-level headers to 3-level headers at sap. While it's a good stab at cleanup (I don't want to discourage you), I just say that those headers should be at level 4 when there are multiple etymologies. This should give:

mediadía

Please try to be more diligent if you make further Spanish entries. The word medianoche is NOT masculine and you cannot say "al medianoche"; and there is no such word as mediadía. Medianoche is feminine (that’s why it’s media), and since día is masculine, it takes medio ... mediodía. —Stephen 16:29, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Celestianpower. I know this might sound a little weird, but could you please delete my user page. There are personal details in the history, and following the recent personal attacks on KateFan and Gator over on Wikipedia I am concerned they might be used against me. m:Wiktionary/logo/refresh/voting

I do not want to come across as contumelious but please consider casting your vote for the tile logo as—besides using English—the book logo has a clear directionality of horizontal left-to-right, starkly contrasting with Arabic and Chinese, two of the six official UN languages. As such, the tile logo is the only translingual choice left and it was also elected in m:Wiktionary/logo/archive-vote-4.
