Etymology

Attested as Geurres in 569 and as Geurres, Iurres or Iorres since the 9th century,[1] later Valdeorres (from val + de, "Valley of Orres"); from Latin Gigurri, the pre-Latin name of a local tribe of Gallaecia, from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia.
