From Arabic طَلِيعَة (ṭalīʕa, “a scout; and a party of scouts”), from the verb طَالَعَ (ṭālaʕa, “to inspect”), from the root ط ل ع (ṭ-l-ʕ), the same as طَلَعَ (ṭalaʕa, “to watch”).
