Etymology edit
From a stem of uncertain origin, perhaps from Proto-Finno-Ugric *puke- (“to climb, creep”)[1][2] + -ik. The original form was bú, then búik, finally the variants bújik and búvik after the hiatus was filled with j and v, respectively.[3]
