  1. A traditional children's toy consisting of a wooden cup with a handle, and a ball attached to the cup by a string; the player attempts to catch the ball in the cup.

The first element perhaps an imperative form of Middle French biller (to play boules), the second a diminutive of either bouc (goat) or Middle French bouque (boule).[1]
