  1. Euphemistic form of diabhal (devil).: deuce, dickens

Usage notes edit

Used primarily in the expressions m’anam don diucs! (bless my soul!, literally my soul to the deuce!)[2] and d’anam don diucs! (what the deuce!, literally your soul to the deuce!).[3] The latter is also found as th'anam don diucs in Munster Irish, and sometimes written phonetically as hanaman diucs.[4]
