försörja (present försörjer, preterite försörjde, supine försörjt, imperative försörj)

  1. to support, to provide for (usually economically, and usually oneself, one's family, or the like)
    Han försörjer sig som bagare
    He makes his living as a baker
    Hon fick jobba hårt för att försörja en familj
    She had to work hard to support her family
  2. to supply (with electricity, material, or the like, on a continuous basis)
    Kraftverket försörjer staden med el
    The power plant supplies the city with electricity

Usage notes edit

Both senses can be understood as "provide someone/something with what it needs," usually economically when of a person, and often reflexively of oneself.
