Etymology edit

Aphetic form of variant sfărâma, verbal derivative of sfărâmă, older variant of fărâmă (piece, crumb). Other theories start from the variant form sfărâma, sfărma, deriving from a Vulgar Latin root *exformāre (compare Italian sformare). See also înfărma.[1] Compare Aromanian sãrmu, Albanian thërrmoj.
