Learned borrowing from Latin frātria, itself borrowed from Ancient Greek φρᾱτρίᾱ (phrātríā), from φρᾱ́τηρ (phrā́tēr) +‎ -ίᾱ (-íā). Doublet of frairie (see also confrérie).
