Etymology edit
First attested in 1519. From hiszem (“I believe”), the first-person singular indicative present definite form of hisz (“to believe”). For the final m changing to n, compare talán.[1]

- Itt vagyok, hiszen megígértem, hogy eljövök! ― I am here, of course, as I promised I would come.
- hey, but, why; said when realizing something or wanting someone else to realize something
- Hiszen ez nem is nehéz! ― Hey, this isn’t even difficult!
- De hiszen ott voltam! ― But I was there for sure!
