Etymology edit

From Proto-Tocharian *käsk-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰn̥-sḱé, a form of *gʷʰen- (to strike, slay, kill). Cognate with English bane, Sanskrit घन (ghana, killer, destroyer), Latin *fendo, and many other derivatives of this root.
