Borrowed from Javanese ꦏꦿꦸꦥꦸꦏ꧀ (krupuk), from Old Javanese kěrupuk (crunchy flake), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *ka- +‎ *rupuk (crack), probably onomatopoeic. Cognate with Malay keropok, Tagalog kropek. Doublet of keropok.
