Etymology edit

From a reinterpretation of Middle High German kesten sg as plural (*keste + the common -en ending).[1] kesten is from Old High German kestinna, from Proto-West Germanic *kastannjā, from Latin castanea. Cognate with dialectal German Käste, Keste, English chesten.
