Etymology edit

From Old Irish lócharn, lúacharn, from Proto-Celtic *loukarnâ, borrowed from Latin lucerna (lamp). Cognate with Irish lóchrann, Welsh llugorn, and Cornish lugarn. Related to Latin lux, Greek λευκός (lefkós, white). Sanskrit रुच् (ruc), and Persian رخش (roxš).
