Adverb edit

sniskan (not comparable)

  1. (colloquial) out of proper alignment; askew, crooked, misaligned
    Tavlan hängde på sniskan
The painting was crooked / hung askew
  2. (colloquial, figuratively) (a bit) off (from the desired state)
Hans karriär hade hamnat lite på sniskan
His career had gone a bit awry / taken a bit of a dive (literally "had ended up a bit askew/crooked")

Usage notes edit

For things going awry more generally, snett, galet, or fel often sounds better. Think something hanging crooked as a metaphor.
