perfect participle (plural perfect participles)

  1. (grammar) A participle indicating a completed action or state:
    1. a simple (one-word) participle, traditionally called the past participle, used together with an auxiliary verb to form a perfect tense, such as "eaten" in English or "gegangen" in German
    2. a compound participle, e.g. "having eaten" in English or "ayant mangé" in French.
