From Late Latin polypodium, from Ancient Greek πολυπόδιον (polupódion), from πολυ- (polu-, poly-, many) + πούς (poús, -pod, foot) + -ιον (-ion, -ium). Later reinforced by the translingual scientific use of Polypodium.
