Latvian edit

Etymology edit

From the same stem as rakstīt, perhaps its original source. According to some researchers, it reflects an earlier *rasts (cf. irregularly formed Lithuanian rãštas), changed to raksts under the influence of rakt “to dig” (earlier “to pierce,” “to scrape”; see rakt, rakstīt).[1]
