Inherited from Ottoman Turkish صارماش طولاش (ṣarmaş dolaş),[1][2] from صارماش (ṣarmaş) +‎ طولاش (dolaş),[3] equivalent to sar- (to wrap, to wind) +‎ -ma +‎ +‎ dola- (to wind around) +‎ .
