Etymology
From the same Proto-Finno-Ugric *śorwa as Estonian sarv and Hungarian szarv, which in turn is a loan from Proto-Indo-Iranian *śṛva, compare Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬏 (srū, “horn, claw, talon”), 𐬯𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬁 (srvā, “horn”), Middle Persian slwb' (srū, “horn, nail”), Persian سرو (surū, “animal horn”).
