Dutch edit
Etymology edit
Based on Ancient Greek ταῦρος (taûros, “bull”) and presumably (being an initiative of Stichting Taurus), Latin taurus (“bull”). The variant in -os was apparently chosen for the superficial resemblance to the Dutch word os (“ox”), as in oeros (“aurochs”); note also the stylized variant TaurOs. Doublet of stier.
