Compare with Igala údo, from Proto-Yoruba *u-do, ultimately from Proto-Yoruboid *ú-do, *í-do. Originally distinct from ìwọ́ (umbilical cord) (Sense 2), but the anatomical similarities have made the terms semantically synonymous
