uusi

      Finnish

      Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Ugric *wuδ́i. Cognates include Estonian uus, North Sami ođas, Komi выль (vyĺ) and Hungarian új. Proto-Finnic *usi would actually be expected; the occurring long vowel may reflect the lost initial *w-.
