Etymology 1

From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *yu¹ (to take), ultimately from Proto-Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Burmese ယူ (yu, to take), Nuosu (yu, to grab), Horpa zu (to take), Nusu ʑu⁵⁵ (to take) and Naxi yuq (to take). Compare with Lhao Vo yu , Zaiwa yu, Hpon yú-ŋ and Lianghe Achang ʑu⁵⁵.

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *b-yəw-n/t (to leak, to drip, urine). Cognate with Burmese ယို (yui, to leak, to shed (tears)), Nuosu (yy), Naxi yiq, Guiqiong ju³⁵, Jingpho kayun, Manipuri ꯌꯨ (yooba) and Rawang vyø̄. Compare Lhao Vo yug, Zaiwa yui, Longchuan Achang ʑau⁵⁵ and Hpon yúʔ.
