Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *čekn (“part of shoulder between the neck and shoulderblade”). Acc. to Clauson, it is derived from Proto-Oghuz *čig- (“to knot”), Turkmen çigmek. Cognate with Azerbaijani çiyin, Turkmen çigin.
