Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀστεροσκοπῶ (asteroskopô, to watch the stars) + -εῖον (-eîon).[1] By surface analysis, αστέρας (astéras) +‎ σκοπώ (skopó) +‎ -είο (-eío) (see σκοπέω (skopéō) for the second component).
