From Byzantine Greek καθρέφτης (kathréphtēs), from earlier καθρέπτης (kathréptēs), from unattested *κάθρεπτον (*káthrepton) < *κάθροπτον (*káthropton), from Koine Greek κάθοπτρον (káthoptron), from Ancient Greek κάτοπτρον (kátoptron).[1] Compare the borrowing κάτοπτρο (kátoptro).
