Etymology

According to Beekes, from Pre-Greek, in view of the suffix -βος, which is found also in μάτταβος (máttabos, “stupid, silly”), ἀττέλαβος (attélabos, “locust”) and κόλλαβος (kóllabos, “kind of cake or roll”).
