Borrowed from Mongolian ᠤᠯᠠᠭᠠᠨᠪᠠᠭᠠᠲᠤᠷ (Ulaɣanbaɣatur). The spelling pre-dates the development of the Cyrillic Mongolian spelling Улаанбаатар (Ulaanbaatar).
