From *aqïrïn "slowly, quietly, cautiously", from a verbal stem *aqïr-/aqur- "to move (act) slowly, cautiously", as evidenced in Old Uyghur [script needed] (aquru, quietly; cautiously); Yakut аҕырыа (ağırıa, to be moderate).

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (aqrun, quitely); Kazakh ақырын (aqyryn, slowly, quietly), Kyrgyz акырын (akırın, slowly, quietly), Uzbek aqirin (slowly), Khakas ағрин (ağrin, slowly, quietly, gradually), etc.
