From *alqïš (praise, blessing), derived from Proto-Turkic *ạlkɨ- (to praise, bless).[1]

Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (alqïš, praise, blessing);[2] Kumyk алгъыш (alğış, blessing; expression of gratitude), Kyrgyz алкыш (alkış, blessing), Southern Altai алкыш (alkïš, blessing), Uzbek olqish (an act of wishing well, blessing, benediction; applause), Uyghur ئالقىش (alqish, applause; praise; benediction), Turkish alkış (applause), Tuvan алгыш (algış, blessing), etc.
