Etymology

From диве́рсия (divérsija, subversion) +‎ -ант (-ant, agent suffix), with the first element borrowed ultimately from Latin dīversiōnem, via one or several western intermediaries (cf. Polish dywersja, French diversion), and with the second element borrowed from French -ant. No such word as *diversant exists in French.
