Inherited from Proto-Slavic *mǫdrostь. By surface analysis, му́дрий (múdryj, wise) +‎ -ість (-istʹ). Compare Russian му́дрость (múdrostʹ), Belarusian му́драсць (múdrascʹ), Polish mądrość.
