Russian edit
Pronunciation edit
Noun edit
мѵ́ро • (míro) n inan (genitive мѵ́ра, uncountable)
- Pre-1918 spelling of ми́ро (míro).
Usage notes edit
Before the spelling reforms of 1918, мѵро was the only Russian word that was consistently written with the letter ѵ, и́жица (ížica, “izhitsa”), along with its derivatives. Some other words, like сѵно́дъ (sinód, “synod”), Сѵ́рія (Sírija, “Syria”), and ѵпоста́сь (ipostásʹ, “hypostasis, the being of Jesus Christ”), were also written with izhitsa, but more rarely.
It was finally replaced with the modern spelling ми́ро (míro) in 1918 when izhitsa was eliminated.
