From Proto-Mordvinic *načkə, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ńačkɜ (wet, humid, watery, raw). Akin to Moksha начка (načka), Finnish nahkea (tacky, sticky), Lule Sami njuoskas, Eastern Mari ночко (nočko).
