Etymology

Derived from a Turkic language. Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *ič (interior; inner) and Proto-Turkic *tōn (clothing, garment). Compare Tatar ыштан (ıştan) and Crimean Tatar ıştan, ştan and Kazakh ыштан (yştan), all with the same meaning.
