Borrowed from Polish -stwo, Belarusian -ства (-stva), Russian and Ukrainian -ство (-stvo), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *-ьstvo. Alternative form derives from the rebracketing when suffixed onto a word ending in -t, as seen in Belarusian -цтва (-ctva), Polish -ctwo, Ukrainian -цтво (-ctvo).
