Cognate with Ugaritic 𐎀𐎁𐎊𐎐 (ảbyn, “poor, impoverished”). Borrowed into Late Egyptian, producing Coptic ⲉⲃⲓⲏⲛ (ebiēn, “miserable, wretched”).
