אויסלייג
Yiddish
editEtymology
editProbably a deverbal from אויסלייגן (oysleygn), from Middle High German ūʒlegen (“to display, set out; interpret; pronounce; lend money”).[1][2]By surface analysis, אויס־ (oys-) + לייגן (leygn). Possibly under influence of אות (os, “letter”), אותיות pl (oysyes), from Hebrew אות (ot). Contrast German Auslage f (“cost or sum (of money); display (of wares)”), Auslegung f (“interpretation”).[3]
