Hebrew edit

Etymology edit

Ultimately from Arabic زَرَافَة (zarāfa), further etymology is disputed. Perhaps from Persian زرناپا (zornâpâ, giraffe), a compound of زرنا (zornâ, flute, zurna) and پا (, leg), or from Classical Syriac ܙܵܪܝܼܦܵܐ (zarāfa).
