מיתרי הקול
Hebrew edit
Etymology edit
Construction form of מיתרים (“cords”) + קול (“voice”), literally: "the-cords of the-voice". Most probably a load translation from a European language.
Pronunciation edit
- (Modern Israeli Hebrew) (common, sub-standard) IPA(key): /mɛjtaˌʁɛj haˈkol/
- (Modern Israeli Hebrew) (formal, less common) IPA(key): /mɛtˌʁɛ haˈkol/
Noun edit
מֵיתְרֵי־הַקּוֹל • (meyt'rèy-hakól) m pl
Usage notes edit
While the formal pronunciation better reflects the traditional vowel signs, it is rarely used today, giving way to the modern colloquial pronunciation even in formal settings.
