  1. to praise, to glorify
    • 1926, Rachel the Poetess, To My Land 1–4:
      לֹא שַׁרְתִּי לָךְ אַרְצִי, \ וְלֹא פֵּאַרְתִּי שְׁמֵךְ \ בַּעֲלִילוֹת גְּבוּרָה \ בִּשְׁלַל קְרָבוֹת;
      I did not sing to you my land, / and I did not praise your name / in tales of heroism / in an abundance of battles;
  2. to adorn, to beautify
