Arabic edit

Proper noun edit

إِبْرَٰهِـۧم (ʾibrāhīmm

  1. Obsolete spelling of إِبْرَاهِيم (ʔibrāhīm)

Usage notes edit

This spelling is found in the Qur'an alongside the normal classical spelling إِبْرَٰهِيم (ʔibrāhīm). In the influential Cairo edition, it is only found in Surat Al-Baqara (where it is used exclusively), but usage is more mixed in early manuscripts. The reading إِبْرٰهٰم (ʔibrāhām) is used in some reading traditions, notably that of Hisham ibn Ammar, for this spelling, based on the scribal tradition.
