اِبْتَهَلَ (ibtahala) VIII (non-past يَبْتَهِلُ (yabtahilu), verbal noun اِبْتِهَال (ibtihāl))

  1. to humiliate one's self before God and call to him
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 3:61:
      فَمَنْ حَاجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ وَنِسَاءَنَا وَنِسَاءَكُمْ وَأَنْفُسَنَا وَأَنْفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَلْ لَعْنَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَاذِبِينَ
      faman ḥājjaka fīhi min baʕdi mā jāʔaka mina l-ʕilmi faqul taʕālaw nadʕu ʔabnāʔanā waʔabnāʔakum wanisāʔanā wanisāʔakum waʔanfusanā waʔanfusakum ṯumma nabtahil fanajʕal laʕnata l-lahi ʕalā l-kāḏibīna
