edit- It can also be called تَاء مَفْتُوحَة (tāʔ maftūḥa, “open taʼ”) or تَاء مَبْسُوطَة (tāʔ mabsūṭa, “flat ta'”) in contrast to its special form تَاء مَرْبُوطَة (tāʔ marbūṭa, “tied taʼ”).
