تكیر طاغ
Ottoman Turkish
editAlternative forms
edit- تكفور طاغی (tekfur dağı)
Etymology
editMorphologically from تكیر (tekir, “brindled, tabby”) + طاغ (dağ, “mountain”), but this is just a corrupted form of the earlier name تكفور طاغی (Tekfur Dağı), from تكفور (tekfur, “a Christian bey in Thrace”) + طاغ (dağ, “mountain”). Before the 18ᵗʰ century this city was known as ردوسجق (rodoscuk).
Proper noun
edit- Tekirdağ (a city and province in West Marmara region, Turkey)
- Synonym: ردوسجق (rodoscuk) (obsolete)
