    • 1962, Ghassan Kanafani, رجال في الشمس [Men in the Sun]:
      بَعْدَ فُتْرَةِ صَمْتٍ طَوِيلَةٍ تَنَحْنَحَ ٱلْأُسْتَاذُ سَلِيمٌ وَقَالَ بِصَوْتٍ هَادِئٍ
      baʕda futrati ṣamtin ṭawīlatin tanaḥnaḥa l-ʔustāḏu salīmun waqāla biṣawtin hādiʔin
      After a long period of silence, Ustaz Selim cleared his throat and said quietly.
