Formally from the root ع ر م ر م (ʕ-r-m-r-m), from ع ر م (ʕ-r-m) with the last two radicals reduplicated.

    • 6th century CE, ʿAntarah ibn Shaddād al-ʿAbsī, from Mu'allaqat:
      طَوْرًا يُجَرَّدُ لِلطَّعَانِ وَتَارَةً // يَأْوِي إِلَى حَصِدِ القِسِيِّ عَرَمْرَمِ
      ṭawran yujarradu li-ṭ-ṭaʿāni watāratan // yaʾwī ʾilā ḥaṣidi l-qisiyyi ʿaramrami
      Sometimes he departs against a spearman, and at turns
      He finds his abode among countless archers with tight bows
